Day 2: The Power of Flow

Me thinks that the minute my legs begin to move my thoughts begin to flow, as if I had given vent to the stream at the lower end and consequently new fountains flowed into it at the upper.
— Henry David Thoreau

6:30am - Good Morning!

(get the retreat guide here)

As you awaken today, carry that attitude of gratitude into your day. Before you brush your teeth, take a moment and notice something wonderful about yourself: the way you stretch, your toes, fingers, your ability to wake up and see. Stretch your arms over your head and gently enter your day with an appreciation of all that you have and are. Then let’s meet on the mat for meditation. The recording’s right here:

As you do your morning walk, jog, or stair climb notice all the miracles around you from your ability to breathe to a flower blooming.  We’ll see you here for 9am yoga flow:

Keep the mindfulness going as you journal with a smoothie about your morning and your practice. What things are you especially grateful for? What did you notice that’s particularly special and beautiful this morning? Perhaps something you haven’t noticed before? Write it down and let it expand into the page. Let yourself relax into noticing the beauty and miracles around you.

Explore how you’re writing in your journal. Notice if today, thoughts come more easily. Again, when you don’t know what to write, just sit with pen on paper, perhaps draw or just let the pen take it’s walk. See where you end up.

During these days, hopefully always, while preparing food, try to be present, mindful. This way we notice things about ourselves, the food and our surroundings as we prepare our meal and eat it. Eating is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Let it be a way to cherish yourself and truly nourish yourself.  Say thank you to each piece for its energy. Once again, let yourself be 100% aware of what you are doing. Enjoy and savor each bite.

After lunch, read and relax. If you need to check email, give yourself a time limit. Then, once again take an electronic break. Why not try a soothing foot soak today?

Homemade Foot Soak for Achy Feet

  • Hot water

  • 2 tablespoons vinegar

  • 1 cup Epsom salt or sea salt

Fill a foot bath or large basin with hot water. Add the vinegar and mix in a handful of Epsom salt or sea salt. Soak feet for 20 minutes. Then prepare the same mixture using cool water. Soak a towel in the cool mixture, squeeze out excess and wrap it around feet for five minutes for a refreshing finish. Repeat whenever necessary to reduce inflammation and relieve achy feet.
